Heil Gas Furnace

I have a Heil gas furnace model PGAA60E1K1 G4P060A3D1

It makes at funny noise upon start up and seems louder than usual, my wife swears she has smelled gas, I don't. Still heats ok but makes a buzzing type noise. Any clues what I should look for?

Welcome to the forums.

You have a packaged unit.... correct ?
Where does your wife smell gas....... inside the house ?
Don't discount your wife's nose.... she may be sensitive to that smell.

The draft inducer blower is located near the burner area and starts immediately on a call for heat. The burner usually follows 30-45 seconds later. The inducer runs under high heat and the bearings get dry and noisy. Not much of a way of servicing it..... it just gets replaced.

From what I can see without a serial number..... your unit is in the area of 10-11 year old. As far as the gas smell.... if she smells it in the house..... I'd recommend having the unit professionally serviced and in particularly have the heat exchanger checked for integrity. If the exchanged gets a hole in it.... you can smell fumes, gas and also be exposed to CO.

Your furnace comes with a ten year warranty on the heat exchanger.

Take the cover off the burner compartment of the furnace. Carefully observe the sequence of events which occurs when you turn up the thermostat.

Post that sequence here, in order and in detail.

For example, as soon as the thermostat calls for heat, a small motor called the inducer motor should start and come up to speed. Is that the noisy motor you refer to?
