Heil Furnace making whistling noise

Hi we have a Heil Furnace that starts making a whistling noise the moment it kicks on. Heil Model NTC6150K.JA1. It sounds like it is coming from above the jets almost like a bad or loose belt/fan. Thanks for your help.

You need to determine if it's the draft inducer blower or the main blower.
Does it whistle in FAN ON mode ?

Thanks for responding! It does not whistle when in FAN ON mode. It only whistles when in Heat ON mode.

Is this the correct part assuming this is what is causing the noise?

Blower Motor Model # 1011404

This looks to be the model that correlates with my furnace when looking at the Technical Support Manual.

Take the cover off the burner compartment of the furnace. You should be able to locate a small fan motor called the inducer motor, usually found above the burners.

Verify that this is where the noise is coming from.

If so, usually the inducer motor assembly is fairly easy to remove by removing a few bolts. I'd pull out the inducer motor assembly and inspect it for broken fan blades, junk accumulated in the fan blades or other defects.

You can turn off the gas and power up the inducer motor, which may allow you to identify if it's the motor itself which is making the noise. If so, it's pretty likely that you will need a new inducer motor assembly.

No.... that motor in your link is the main blower.

You want to look at the inducer. If it has an external fan like in the picture.... you can turn it by hand.

Hey Pete,

Just wanted to say thank you and God Bless. The sound seems to be coming from the Inducer Motor. I found the same motor model online for $88. It will be here in a week or so and I will change it out.

Here is the one I purchased.

Thanks again!

You're welcome. I've been hearing of good results with the Fasco replacement unit.
