New Goodman heating & cooling system

I think should have posted this question here.

I am requesting quotes to replace gas forced air heating system additionaly adding central air a/c unit. It will be a single zone in bi-level house. Recommendation from installer was to re-use the ducts which are already in place with some additions in 1st level from 4 inch to 6 inch. This is a rental unit so i wanted something cheap and he suggested to go with Goodman vs Lennox, Carrier and others which I knew the brands on top of my head. I have following questions
1. Is goodman reliable? ( i think its subjective but for laymans perspective)
2. What are the total components need to buy i understand heatpump, condenser which goes outside , thermostat, but is there a list which i can look as this will be kind of new installation except ducts?
3. Besides Price of components, how much labor is expected? I asked Sears who said they will only use kenmore and it will be around 12k vs this guy said for goodman he will do all the things in 6k. The guy with 6k quote is licensed but not a dealer but he will take me to dealer to buy the equipment don't know if that voids the warranty.
Please advise.
Thanks

This is the correct forum for your question. Your second posting was in the heat pump and electric heat section and is now gone.

Since your question is currently generic and not heat pump specific..... we'll roll here.

Goodman also makes Janitrol furnaces which are a cheaper version of the Goodman.

Mine is 20 years old and still running. The air conditioning compressor went out at about 14 years.

If you are using gas as the heat source, you don't need to also spend the extra money on a heat pump.

I agree with Woody.

With our climate here in NJ..... I would definitely select gas heat over a heat pump system.
Stay with a gas furnace with an A coil and add an outside A/C condensor unit.

I would say 5K-6K is a reasonable estimate here in NJ.

The only other way to get different prices would be to call other dealer/installers.

A guy that is licensed but takes you to a dealer to buy? Sounds shady as if licensed you buy from a distributor, not a dealer. Customer shouldn't be dealing with anyone but installer and most times neither a dealer or distributor will sell to you.

Thanks Woody, Pete and Astuff.
Yes I am in NJ and its confusing as price varies for each quote. Although all of them suggested 100K BTU Furnace and 3 Ton AC so that was good. We have a chimney but want to demolish the chimney as its broken or else need to rebuild it so I was thinking do install the furnace which doesn't require chimney. Don't know if they are good or bad but i heard its as reliable as the units which require chimney for vent.
@Astuff,
The guy works for a heating and cooling company but also does independent. May be its not a good idea to go that route. I will keep getting quotes unless i am satisfied.
Thanks,
S2K
