Oil furnace oil supply trouble

Though it was OK but is dying again, furnace has run 2 weeks with no trouble, then today it stopped, I crack the little bleed nipple and get huge amount of air in oil, bled it couple of times and have got it running. It is a single pipe system, I have checked all connections, where please am I getting all the air from ? Very thankful for any suggestions . Forgot to mention, tank is full .

Jim,
Start at the tank and check all your fittings, your filter canister and gasket along with all your pump fittings and line connections. If you are completely satisfied that nothing is loose or defective and if you have a buried oil line you may have developed a leak in the line.

You can disconnect that line and run a new one above ground to check and see if that solves your problem.

Hope this helps a little.

That can be exasperating. After you bleed the pump it runs fine. Once the pump stops a tiny pinhole allows air in and the oil drains back into the tank.

Usually it's a loose fitting. Even if tight.... a fitting can still leak.

Any compression fittings need to be replaced with flares. If you have a filter in line, make sure all gaskets are clean & tight. Is the fuel line coming in contact with concrete?
