Four year old Goodman GKS91155DXAA

Installed new heater four years ago, no problems. This season after cold weather, a warm up and then cold again the heater does not want to function. I got the three flashes so I cleaned the drain lines and checked the vent line, both were clear. Checked the vacuum line and port for the inducer fan, both were clear. After numerous attempts to locate the problem and rechecking the inducer vacuum switch I decided to not mount it before checking the heater operation. It ran fine until I lifted the switch up then off went the flame. If the switch is lying flat next to the inducer it works but if the switch is tilted more than 45 degrees it will not work. I do not have access to a manometer but is it possible something inside the heater is failing and the inducer fan cannot draw a slight vacuum? I've had the fan off and checked the intake and output of the fan and it seems to be functioning properly

So far I've replaced the 2" with 3" exhaust, replaced the horizontal elbow & furnace flue pipe, replaced the drain lines and replaced the inducer vacuum switch.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Without being able to measure the vacuum created at the switch & knowing the spec on the switch, it's going to be tough to find the problem. Sometimes a small crack in one of the hoses can cause your problem.

Thanks Grady, I checked the hose by pressurizing under water, no air bubbles. Inducer motor receiving 125 VAC, checked the gasket for the inducer, running out of ideas. Borrowed a vacuum gauge, not small increment type but needle didn't move. Vac switch is marked -1.10

Update, now it will not fire up no matter where the switch is placed. Took inducer blower off the heater and energized the heater, inducer spun and was blowing a good force of air, I slightly blocked the fan intake and the ignitor lit, as soon as I removed the blockage the ignitor shut off.

Did you see any water when you took off the vac hose? Did you Tee the gauge into the hose?

skaggsje, no water in vac line or inducer nipple, did tee the vac gauge. Is it possible it a bad gasket somewhere letting to much airflow?

By blocking the intake on the blower proves the pressure is good. Yes the gasket could be the problem. When ever you pull the blower you should replace the gasket.

skaggsje, first thanks for the assist. Going to order Goodman Furnace Box 20171002AS and hopefully that'll solve the problem. Looks like it's the plastic pan with the gaskets, would there be any other place that could leak air through?

Just curious, why do you think it's the collector box?

That's where the inducer draws from, so either gasket is leaking? I get the gaskets and cover for $50 delivered, the mounting screw holes are getting a little loose after twenty or so mount & unmounts of the inducer

Think I found my answer, while looking for the best price on collector box cover 20171002AS I found a recall on that part. Since I purchased the heater in the later part of 2013 mine missed the recall. Have over a 1/4 inch depression next to the inducer hole in the cover http://mobile.goodmanmfg.com/mobilea...Box+Covers.pdf

It does indeed sound like you found the source of the problem. A new collector box & gasket set should fix it.

Grady, sure seems like it. I ordered the parts Friday but due to the holiday it'll be a week or close to a week for delivery. Decided that I couldn't wait that long and needed the heater to work reliably so I could get some sleep. Purchased a $3 tube of silicone at loews, put a decent size bead on the side of the collector box hole where the depression is, waited 1/2 hour for silicone to somewhat solidify, installed the inducer and she's been working great for the past 48 hours.

I've done the same thing myself if I couldn't get parts for a few days. In your case, you know what the problem is, what it's going to take to fix it right, have taken all the right steps to get the parts, but need heat so you gots to do what you gots to do.
