American Standard Gas Pack heating problem

New to the forum, sort of as I was able to get help for a similar problem bout a year ago.

Here is my dilemma:

American Standard Heat Pack 12 Seer
MODEL# YCX036G1MOAD
Serial# 5094YDF1H (5092NUSWD)

- 2 flashing lites ( system lock out no flame)

- push thermosatat down below room temperature then back up above. (Fan set to auto)
- Get slow continuous flashing lites (normal call for heat)
- board clicks and burner ignites and eventually fan comes on.
- after 1-6 sec. board clicks and burner shuts down but fan stays on.
- after 15-60 sec. board clicks and burner ignites again for 1-6 sec. then shuts down again (fan still running)

- this cycle continues until the thermostat is eventually satisfied, the gas will drop out, and the blower will stop after 30-45 seconds. Then it goes into the 2 flash lockout mode.

- Some times the gas will drop out, and the blower will stop after 30-45 seconds before the thermostat is satisfied and it goes into the 2 flash lockout mode.

When I go back and do the thermost thing again. (push thermosatat down below room temperature then back up above.) The cycle all starts over again.

Not sure what is going on or what needs to be replaced.

I'm a novice at this stuff. Was able to replaced a board on a unit on my guesthouse bout a year ago with you all's help in the diagnostics.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get

Sounds like the flame rod needs cleaning. Find the metal rod in front of the burner opposite end from igniter. Remove and wipe off with a scotch pad or a dollar bill. Hopefully that's all it is.

Welcome back. I remember the other package unit was a York on the guest house.

This A/S (Trane) unit will be a little tougher to get to the burner area.

I'm seeing conflicting information on this unit. It looks like it may be a spark ignition system but still shows a flame detect rod.

I took the flame rod out (you are right - a bit harder to get to) cleaned it. (not to dirty but had a nice grey residue coating on it)

Set the temp and it has been holding now for the last three or four hours.
Something it hadn't done for the last three days.

I think this was the fix but I will watch it overnight and see.

Thank you all for your help and quick responses

PS: PJmax, the York unit has been working like a charm since last Feb when I posted the problem I was having. I ended up replacing the board and all is well.

Again
Thanks
