Day & Night furnace: LPG control valve

I have an '80's Day&Night LPG forced air furnace that has not been used in about 15 years because I rely solely on wood to heat my house. Due to a remodel I cannot use my wood stove so I am going to use my furnace. Before turning on the gas supply I tried to cycle the gas valve from off-pilot-on. A little stiff but no problem. Went to turn the valve off before turning on the gas supply and I could not turn it back past the pilot position. Also in the pilot position the plunger is sticky. Although the furnace is old it has seen very little use and always worked well in the past and is in a dust-free room. Thanks in advance for any help.

That did it. I was able to turn it off and then it stuck in the OFF position. Played with it some more and it wouldn't go past the Pilot position. I was finally able to get it to go through a complete cycle after working it back and forth about 15 times. Thanks for your help.
