Can anyone recommend a sealant to use for holes around heating pipes?
Hi guys,
I live in an apartment building and we have heating pipes that run through the apartments. Since the heat has been turned on in the building the compound that I applied around those pipes is cracking and falling off and now there are gaps between the ceiling and the pipes. Does anyone know of an appropriate and good sealant I could use for this situation that is heat resistant and is non- flammable?

p,
Just a thought. Pipes need a little room for expansion and contraction.
When hot water hits those pipes they will expand and if confined in too tight a space you may get expansion noises when the pipes rub against the sides.

Why not use paintable silicone caulking. It is sold in tubes the same as regular caulking, will allow for expansion of the pipes, is flexible and can be painted. Since you are using it on the hot water or steam piping they do not get hot enough to affect this caulking.
