Smart thermostat wiring

Can someone please provide some instructions on wiring a smart thermostat inside the furnace?
The furnace is Goodman95 variable stage - the wiring terminals inside are Y2 Y1 C G R W1 W2.
Currently the old thermostat is wired as:
- Black wire goes to C
- Green to G
- Red to R
- White to W1
- Orange to Y1
My problem is that the new thermostat wire is actually two wires – one has a black and white and the other one has a black, white and red.
I guess as long as they are hooked to the same terminals with the thermostat it will work. Would you connect them as:
First cable with black and white only:
- Black to C
- White to W1
Second cable with black, white and red:
- Red to R
- White to G
- Black to Y1

Your current thermostat cable is 5 wires.
What did you do.... pull it out and run two cables ?

You have a variable heat furnace. I'm guessing it's set to automatic as your wire doesn't support multiple heat stages.
