Blower wont work with heat ?

Hi,

The fan/blower will not come on when I call for heat. it works fine when the AC is on and when the heat and AC are off and just the fan is on. It is not an thermostat problem. It is a Goodman system.
Any suggestions?

thank you

Bob

Possible winding issue. Is the motor getting power?

it must be getting power if the blower works with the AC and on FAN ONLY, right?
something to do with calling for heat keeps the blower from working.

No, check for power. Heat could use a different speed

There are two different switching systems for heat....... timer controlled from the control board or a heat sensing control. You will need to post the model number of the furnace. It can be found inside on the side wall near the burner.

The Model No is GMP075-3.

Does the capacitor have anything to do with it?

Not if it runs during other modes of operation.
Before you go any further, check the heat exchanger. GMP units are well known for cracking heat exchangers.

I found an article that says its probably the limit switch. I'll test or replace that.

If the heat exchanger is cracked, your furnace is effectively dead. That’s why I said to check it first before going any further.
Don’t start throwing parts at the problem hoping it goes away. You’ll wind up out a bunch of money and still have a broken furnace.
Do you have a meter? It’s time to pull it out and start diagnosing. After you make sure the heat exchanger is ok.
The limit switch isn’t going to keep the blower off.

after doing more research I saw that there is a blinking lite that flashes 3 times indicating the problem is the pressure switch. I'll replace that and see what happens.

NO!!!!
DO NOT just start throwing parts at the problem. If you don’t have the tools or knowledge needed then call a contractor and let them diagnose the problem.
You’ve gone from a blower not working to all of a sudden the heat doesn’t work.
A pressure switch is a sign of a potential heat exchanger issue.

After installing and repairing these systems for over 15 years, I will agree with roughneck77 that you should Not throw money at this until you or someone qualified, checks the heat exchanger for cracks. I will add that if the exchanger is cracked, it could put Carbon Monoxide fumes in your home when operated and put you all to sleep permanently. So we are cautioning you for safety reasons.

the 3 blinking lights indicates that the pressure switch does not work. The pressure switch not working when the heat is on causes the blower to not operate. the part is $15. I also found an article on how to get the pressure switch to possibly work and a few other things to check.
this is a DIY site after all. Not a Call A Tech site lol
thanks for the input.

This site also isn’t about throwing parts at issues hoping they go away.
The code doesn’t mean the pressure switch isn’t working and needs to be replaced. It means the pressure switch circuit never closed. Further diagnosis is needed.
It doesn’t matter how cheap parts are. You still need to diagnose the problem. The blinking light isn’t indicating what parts to replace.
Now, being brutally honest. You have a GMP. The GMP has a known issue with the heat exchanger cracking and splitting. You need to check for this before going further. A cracked heat exchanger will mean your furnace is dead and due for replacement. Operating a furnace with a cracked heat exchanger is dangerous. You need to make sure yours isn’t cracked before proceeding.
