1940 gas floor furnace lighting instructions
My house was built in 1940 and have the original gas floor furnace. It has been working perfectly fine & system was inspected last year when utility co ran new gas lines. System is still solid & good condition. However the gas was turned off for a short while & my father never taught me before his passing how to light the darn thing.
I have the funny looking key with the match holding wire but the instructions have missing blotches. There is 1 rod but can't tell what to do with or turn to where. I remeber years ago my dad walking my mom thru lightening it and had to turn & press down, lower the match then turn again. All i can make out of the manufacturer is T**CO. Could anyone instruct me how to relight it? Since I'm unsure if it has an auto off, I'm keeping the gas off & only turn it on when need to use stove or heat the water. Hope someone still knows how to work this thing. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.
There should be a knob on the gas valve that says OFF - PILOT - ON.
You need to put it to PILOT and hold it down while lighting the pilot.
Hold it down for 30 seconds after the pilot lights. Turn valve to ON
Do you know where the pilot light areas is ?
Post a picture or two if unsure....... How-to-insert-pictures.

No.... it won't click into the pilot position. It will stop at the off end and at the on end.

From what I can find out.... you have an old Temco floor furnace. I have never worked on one of them.
Click on the bottom link. It should open in a new tab. Now click on that diagram and you will see an enlarged diagram. Does this look like your heater ?
