MS-4 gas burner

Miller by home furnace company furnace. This furnace is installed in a mobile home I just purchased at a campground. It has a MS-4 gas burner. In the attached pictures there is a small screw I turn to get gas to flow up to the red push button. I push in the red button and light a match and hold it inside the burner door while holding the red button down. I instantly get plenty of flame in there. I turn the pilot valve to Pilot and hold it in. As soon as I take my finger off the red button all of the gas stops flowing and there is no flame in there anymore. No pilot lit no nothing. I'm sure I am missing something in firing up this furnace. Any help and or ideas would be greatly appreciated.red button

Welcome to the forums.

This may help...... How-to-insert-pictures.

You should not need to turn any screws on a gas valve.
You need to put the gas valve in PILOT. Hold the red button down while lighting pilot flame.
Hold the button for 30 seconds. Let the button go.
If the pilot goes out.... hold the button down and relight it again and hold for another 30 seconds.
If it goes out again when letting off the button.... you probably will need a new thermocouple.

More information

There is a separate small gas line before the pilot control that leads to the red button. The screw in this line allows gas to flow to the red button.

Red button with pilot door open behind it

Small gas line before pilot valve that leads to red button

That red button affair is a pilot lighter. It's before my time. It's not part of the gas valve. In your application you turn the valve to pilot. You light the pilot lighter and then push the gas valve in for pilot lighting. You should be able to turn off the pilot lighter and keeping the valve pressed in and the pilot should stay lit. You may have to try lighting the pilot several times in order to purge the pilot gas line.

After the pilot stays lit..... turn the gas valve to on.

Thank you very much for all of your awesome help and information. Taylor including a picture of what the flame looks like from the burner tube when I turn the screw to let some gas through their push the red button And then light it. I held the pilot button in and it didn't change anything. I have basically stripped the head of the screw and I'm going to call someone in to replace that before I Blow the place up. I will go so far with gas And then stop before there is Carnage. Again thank you very incredibly much for all of your help!

You don't have to use the pilot lighter. You could use one of those long butane lighters.

Sorry, that is actually what I was using. For some reason I did not remember what to call it. If I don't open that screw no matter what I do I don't get a flame in there.
