Trane xr80 gas furnace
#1

I noticed a loud noise coming from my furnace. I went to take a look and discovered my draft inducer was running while the cool mode is on, the ignitor nor gas kick on, thank goodness. I have checked the wiring. In the last several months I had to replace the board due to water damage. The draft inducer should not run when in cool mode. I shut down the breaker for about 20 minutes, hoping a reset would happen. Any other possibilities?

Welcome to the forums.
Go to the furnace board and remove the W wire. (W1 and W2 if it has two).
Does the inducer still run by itself ?
If yes..... there is a board problem or failure.

Not using a nest. Using a Honeywell RTH6580WF.
Pete... When I disconnect the W on the furnace board, the inducer does run. So it may be the board. Great tip.I do not get any errors on the LEDs.
I have 5 wires out of the wall to the thermostat. Blue, R, G, Y, W. I bypassed the Blue common and moved G to C and jumped Y to G on the furnace. I jumped because I get nothing using the Blue common. Weird, but good thing I could jump.

Not quite following you.
The blue wire you were using as common is now open ?
Or is it not connected to the right location.

Ummmm..... ok. I guess eventually you'll be connecting it since you need it.
You've confirmed a board problem which is strange since you just replaced it.
Confirm that the inducer is connected to the proper terminals on the board.

Hi Pete,
I wanted to share the troubleshooting information I got from White Rodgers on the board, incase you see something similar on the forum later.
In the furnace:
Please check on a call for cool if you are getting 24 volts from W to ground.
-if you are getting 24 volts on W isolate the thermostat, remove W wire on the thermostat
-if 24 volts disappear, problem is the thermostat.
Check Inducer and Inducer Neutral on the 4 pin and check if you are getting 120v.
If there is no 24volts on the W terminal and the draft inducer is coming on during a call for cool, problem is the furnace control board.
