Trane XL80 Wiring Doesn't Match Thermostat Wiring

Hi all,

I am trying to determine if I can install a new honeywell wifi thermostat in place of my current unit. My furnace is quite old, and from what I can tell, the wiring of the thermostat does not match the wiring of the furnace control panel. I was hoping to use the G wire in place of C, but there are wires already attached to the C terminal (labeled B on this furnace control). However, no wires connected to C on the thermostat panel and there are no extras in the wall. In addition, there are multiple red wires on the furnace panel and some terminals that have multiple wires connected to them. I have included pictures below, any help/clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

On a Trane unit..... the B connection is common (C).
Your A/C condenser is connected to Y and B/C.
Your humidifier is connected to W1 and B/C.

If you don't mind losing the FAN ON mode you can repurpose the blower (G) wire.

At the furnace.......
move the green wire from G to B/C.
install a jumper from Y to G. Can be any type of small wire.

At the thermostat.......
red = R
blue = Y
white = W
green = C

Some Honeywell stats combine the Y and G automatically.
You could post your new stat model number ahead of time.

Thank you! The new thermostat model # is Honeywell RTH6580WF. Just to confirm, once I do the wire transfers you are suggesting on the furnace board I will have white, red, and green wires on the B/C terminal?

I finally got around to installing this, and unfortunately repressing the G wire didn't work. I've double and triple checked the terminal connections and wiring diagram for the new thermostat (furnace picture attached), is there something I've done wrong?

That wiring looks correct leaving these connections.
At the thermostat.......
red = R (depending on stat..... switch to single R wire or add jumper between R terminals.)
blue = Y
white = W
green = C

Disregard my previous message, I made a rookie HVAC mistake and got it working!
