Noisy fuel oil pump

I have a Weil-McLain oil fired boiler with a Beckett AFG burner and a Suntec B2VA-8216 pump manufactured in 1999. The pump will occasionally emit a high pitched whine or whistling noise. A light tap with a plastic hammer on the end of the housing stops the noise. No loss of performance is noted. I have disassembled this pump and see nothing wrong internally. No wear marks on the shaft, gears, plates or housing. The seal is not leaking. The noise sounds just like a bad bearing but since there is none, I am stumped. Both the internal strainer and upstream filter were changed in September and the old ones looked fine. I would just replace the pump but not being able to find the cause is irritating.
