Oval duct tee

Hi. I have a 6" oval duct running in a joist bay that I need to split in two and run oval ducts across the joists to supply two vents in the basement suspended ceiling. I searched online and have not found an "oval tee". I am thinking of attaching an oval start collar on top of a piece of oval pipe to make myself a tee. It would look something like the attached picture.

Looking for thoughts on
- Will there be an air flow issue with this home made "oval tee"?
- If I buy a round full flow tee and squish the round ends into ovals, will that work?

Thank you

Good question but I think your idea with the oval collar should work ok.
Pretty hard to squish the round collar to fit into the oval pipe.

Thanks PJmax. Is it ok for the cross oval to be 6" also or should I use a 5" oval?

You can always make your own starting collars if you have trouble finding an oval one.

I will warn though, a 6" oval duct is usually used for a single vent. The fact that you're tapping 2 more vents off it raises a flag that you might have a lot less airflow (and therefore heat) than you need or expect, especially if you're heating the basement tapping off a first floor duct. Just making sure you've considered it.

Zorfdt, thanks for the heads-up. The 6" oval is directly connected to the main trunk, it's not a tap on another 6" oval. I understand there will be less air flow in each of the two vents. But the basement has two additional supply vents. Both are directly connected to the main supply trunk. I have been monitoring the temperature and It's already cozy in the basement with just those two supply vents. So I am not too concerned.

Project was completed as shown in the picture. The home made oval tee is working as expected. Thank you all for your advice.
