Hot surface igniter only works sometimes
Hey everyone I’m curious if someone with more experience can help me figure out why my furnace isn’t working right. Last year it wasn’t lighting I replaced the hot surface igniter which broke into pieces soon as I pulled it out. This winter it stopped working again I didn’t know if it was going to be the igniter or not but I went and bought a new one I switched it out both seem to be solid no cracks. Now only sometimes will it heat up and ignite it seems to work when the thermostat is turned all the way up but still only sometimes. There are no codes flashing. Sometimes the thermostat will call for heat gas will turn on and the furnace even thinks it’s lit and will turn the blower on. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated the only thing I can think of doing is buying another hot surface igniter

Welcome to the forums.
You don't need to turn the thermostat all the way up.... just several degrees.
The draft inducer start first.
The pressure switch MUST prove or the igniter won't start.
Your furnace may have a control board with an LED visible thru the blower door.
If yes.... it will blink a failure code. Don't throw any more more parts at the repair.
The blower is timer controlled and doesn't know if the burner is lit or not,
There is a sticky at the top of the forum with more info.
