need help ascertain heat exchanger

15+ year old Lennox gas furnace/central AC packaged unit.

Furnace finally gave out, presumably the heat exchanger because CO alarm inside the house went off, gas company called, valve shut off at the gas line.

Considering replacing the heat exchanger instead of a complete new unit out of economic reasons. 2 winters ago I had to replace the ignition board, and saw that this particular unit has just 2 burners.

Does that mean it needs to match to a heat exchanger that specifically has 2 clamshells?

If a replacement heat exchanger was still available it would be matched to the model and serial number of the furnace. You'd order a replacement using the model and serial number.

Two burners means a small furnace. 50k-60k btu's.

You could post the model number off the ID tag on the sidewall near the burner for more information.

Boy, for a 15 year old machine I would really hate to put that much money (for a heat exchanger) into it. 8-10 years is where I personally draw the line if that expense is worth it on an old machine. But, pricing has gotten crazy.

It's a Lennox 12GCS024-050-3PA, according to engineering data sheet found on internet, it's a 50000BTU unit.

Here is a link to a supplier, about the only one, I found that shows a two-clamshell heat exchanger.

I would agree with Dane but it's a little different when a packaged unit is involved.
The total replacement cost is much higher than a standard furnace.

Good find on that heat exchanger. Everyone else wants Lennox retail.
It looks like they are trying to close out of it.

The price difference will be in the thousands. Does the one from plumberstock.com looks like it will fit my unit?

Yes... that looks like the correct part.
When you order it... give them the full model and serial number and they can verify the fit.

Heat exchanger is absolutely not worth changing unless the part is under warranty.
