Igniter and start-up flame do not shut off

Furnace is ICP GUK050N12C1, 22 yrs old.
The resistance igniter stays on (red hot) as long as the furnace works, as does the small flame between the burners that is used to light up the main burners.

It may be that the small flame also heats up the area where the flame roll-out switch is located.

Do you have a question or something we can help with?

What you describe in your first paragraph is normal.

Your last sentence is not correct.

I don't believe the igniter should remain red-hot continuously. Could it be a control board / relay issue?

I'm having difficulties finding the needed tech information.
This happens often with Canadian built appliances.

I see a pilot assembly.
I see a hot surface igniter/flame rod assembly.
I see a fan timer/control board.

I don't see a control board that controls the ignition function.
See if you can get a part number off the board where the igniter/flame sensor connects.

Some igniters do stay on during burner operation.
The flame sensor is working since the pilot is lighting and burner is coming on.

Sorry.... I've hit a dead end. The 1170063 has been upgraded to a new board. Same functions as your board. It controls an ignition source but it does not control the ignition cycle. It's primarily a blower control. If you can't find another board in your furnace then I can't help you any further.

You need to trace the wiring from the gas valve, the pilot assy and igniter/flame rod to where it connects. Although I cannot find any listing.... it must be there. If there is a wiring diagram on the blower door.... post that.

The old ignitor shown on the instruction sheet by the new part would glow red with normal operation.

Yeah.... I had seen that.
Originally it was in two parts and now comes combined at a new improved package price.
Still can't find what controls it. It's not a smart valve.

https://www.climatedoctors.com/honey...as-smartvalve/

I installed a few ICP furnaces around 20 or 25 years ago and they had smart valves.

When I search for gas valves for that model a smart valve comes up.

I didn't make sense to me when they did that.
Control boards are easier to install so why put the ignitor control in the gas valve?
