Question

A technician's instrument indicates that my gas valve is leaking and that it should be replaced. Does $265 sound like a fair price to replace a gas valve for a Lennox Model GH6-120M (35 yr old) furnace?

I smell no gas and have tightened all of the body screws while pondering my decision.

Price

The valve itself should run between 80 to 100 bucks.Don't forget to add in travel time and labor costs. The cost of the valve is determined by it being--a 24 volt valve,a millivolt valve or standing pilot with tcouple. The concern should be that gas is leaking pass the valve seat and allowing it to built up in the heat exchanger.PDF

My god!
Replace your furnace. Why would you ever spend money to fix a 35 year old furnace?
