On my oil fired furnace, the reset button doe not start the burner unless I press it rapidly about ten times in a row.

YOu may have a bad button.. But if you have to reset more than once in a day, you need to call some one to check out your burner.. DO NOT reset it all the tiem where your going to fill your firebox up with oil, or it will be very smokey, and blue in the house when the system is running like it hsould be.. So, you should call in a tech and have it checked out.. Oil burners are not realy a do it yourselfer.
