Kachunk noise from heater

Guys,

First time home-owner here. At night when heating is on, whenever the thermostat kicks the heat back on we hear a loud kachunk noise emanating from the attic. Somehow this only happens at night when the temp is really low. I would appreciate any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix it. Only started two days ago when the temp here in Dallas was <30 for the firsttime.

The heater is a Carrier gas heater. I just went into the attic and cycled the heat 4 to 5 times. The blower comes on just fine and the sound does not occur. The puzzling thing is that it happens only when temp is sub 30 or so.
