Lightbulb Radiator - Is bleeding always required?

When we bought our house, I noticed the several radiators had bleed valves that were painted over and valves that would not turn. I asked if this was a problem. The realator said the house (c. 1960) was converted from steam to hot water heating. The steam system had to be bled and could be adjusted on a radiator by radiator basis. Since the system is now hot water it did not need to be bled. Is this true?

Note: There is a large resovour (>10 gal) in the basement that is for when the water heats up and expands.

Any info would make me feel beter...

Bleeding

We have a 1945 Weil McLain hot water system. I definitely reccomend bleeding every year. Air pockets will reduce efficiency a great deal. It's a simple process but you need to chip away the paint from the screws and keep them clean. Another way to tell if you need to bleed is if your system makes pinging or gurgling noises when it fires up.
