Rust or decay on Water out pipe from Boiler??
I'm including some digital pic's on my boiler situation.
My questions are--------
Why is there some kind of rust or decay on a boiler pipe when it is only 4 yrs. old?
What parts need replacing??
Does it have to do with 2 different types of metals meeting?
Is there a special coated fitting for this problem?
I would rather do the work myself, I have expierience with conduit work, and did the copper heating pipe for my baseboards, just haven't done much plumbing work and was wondering the steps..procedure.
Turn off boiler power/switch is the obvious first step, then turn off water supply, then do I need to drain boiler?? Does the gas need to shut-off also, or is that auto when boiler is switched off??
My fuel is gas, and the boiler make is ----Crown Boiler----cx-e model#200925.
Have a Happy and safe 4th of July, and thanks for any possible help.

From the pic I can see, it looks like something has been leaking on it. You have some good corrision going on at the flange. I'd first look to see what is causing this, what is above this.
May be something as simple as water lines sweating onto this pipe.
I'd wire brush everything and have a good look at the bolts on the flange. May want to replace them (at your conviencen not when want to) and then prime everything with a good enamel primer and then a cover coat with rust-o-leum type paint.
