American Highway Silliness

Am I the only person in this country that sees all the "One Way" signs on highways?! WHAT'S THE POINT?

You'd think that'd fall into the "DUH" category...

LOL. Sad but true. Actually, when I was in high school, there was a girl who got hammered and did that at 3AM. She got 3 miles before the cops got her. Arrested and lost license for 5 years. Moron.

Normally it's just the drunks and elderly that get confused. Last winter though a young lady went up an off ramp on her way to work and got nailed by a salt truck. Wrong way signs didn't help her.

I'm sorry, but if a person's NOT liquored up, they have to be colosally, massively, impressively (continue inserting adjectives here) dumb.

Unlike in rural areas, here in NE NJ you would think that those are highly unnecessary, but it never fails, even though there are pretty much cars running on the highways and byways 24/7, this is still an ongoing problem. Alcohol, recreational pharmaceuticals, and the elderly are not always contributing factors.

In Northern Michigan signs are placed on 2 lane highways stating-DO NOT PASS WHEN OPPOSING TRAFFIC PRESENT

My immediate question was, If a person needed to be reminded of this, wouldn't assuming they could read be a grandious compliment?

Guess some people read the sign and say to themselves "I'm only going.....ONE WAY".

Lost an 85 year old and a 76 year old woman this week here. Going north on southbound lanes. Ran into a big truck.

Which is another VERY good reason to drive in the right hand lane unless passing. If you drive in the left lane and you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could meet someone head-on who THINKS they are in the proper lane of a two lane road.

Not sorry if I sound uncaring for the lost, but I hope the truck driver was ok.

How about the signs that have a deer on them, and say "next 10 miles."
Do the deer actually stay within the 10 miles, and never cross outside that???
In reality [especially in Wisconsin], you should be watching for deer crossing the highways everywhere.

Hey, what's this about American highway silliness !!

We Canadians have them too - that small group of crazies who seem determined to kill you on the road , or at least cause a wreck or two !

My kids actually asked me once how the deer knew to cross where these signs were. I told them that wildlife management takes a couple deer from each area and teach them what it means then they go out and tell the rest. They believed me for a while untill they told mom what I had taught them.

Another goofy sign

In California we have these really dumb signs that tell you "End of XX Zone" instead of just posting the new speed limit. So, when you see the sign you know that the 45 MPH speed limit just ended, but you don't know what the new speed limit is until 1/2 mile down the road, when you see the new "Speed Limit XX" sign. Seems redundant to me.

Always wondered about who makes all that money on signage for the highways around here.
