Servings in a Recipe

I was going to put this thread in the food section but it's really not about kinds of food, recipes, etc.

I just bought a wok and it came with instructions and a few recipes as well. As I was reading the instructions and recipes...one of the recipes showed...

Servings: Chinese 4-6
American 2-3

OMG! What is that supposed to mean????!!! I KNOW what it's supposed to mean but I just thot that was pretty bad especially since I've never seen that before and I'm an ABC (American Born Chinese)! That is sooooo wrong!

I have done a lot of Wok cooking and never seen that before. Perhaps you should write or e-mail the company and ask for an explanation.

Sadly, I believe the reasoning behind this is that portion size for Americans is typically much more than in other countries, China in this case. We are an obese nation and part of the reason is that we eat so much at a time (like supersize fast food meals).

I emailed them a week ago and no response about it...hmmm...

Don't know where the wok was made but I got it from BedBathNBeyond

JMC: you are right! But, I think it's kinda offending!

Not too offensive though, we do eat more.

Golden Corral kicked me out yesterday. Maybe my serving size is different than the norm ?

My wife and I have both seen this before.
For her it is a major problem because her excellent cooking comes from following recipes to the letter.
I on the otherhand only see recipes as a guideline that are meant to send you in a general direction as far as what comes out in the end.

Better to double the recipe to be certain there is enough and any leftovers will save you from making lunch the next day.
