CD scratches

How does a CD know how to scratch or skip on a favorite song? Is it Murphy's Law or is it just me? It seems kinda like a windshield wiper smearing in one spot (AT YOUR EYE LEVEL).

That's just like "Why does a DVD have to scramble up on you at the high point of a movie??" I hate when that happens.

I put all my music on an MP3 player. Now I don't have 200 cd's in my truck.
