Anyone here own/try one of those small battery operated soldering tools?

You know. As seen on tv. They put out about 800 o F, and cool back down, to the touch, in seconds. Are these things basically for tinkertoy projects? I got one for Christmas but haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet. Don't even have solder for it yet. Powerful enough to resolder bad solder on "boards"?

Idea came to me while reading thread in boilers forum about the poster resoldering behind Aquastat or something.

I recently ran into another soldering gun tool that is like a pencil (the other one I spoke of is more fat...like a magic marker) that is supposed to get to 2000 o. Maybe you can shed some light on these things also.

Ya DaVe. I did once about 12 yrs ago. Not a big hit with me. Just didn't seem to cut the mustard. Now it's in my basement somewhere, But I don't miss it.
