Upstairs walkway- how to extend catwalk

HI all-
We are looking at buying a new house. It has a lengthy walkway connecting the bedrooms. If you look over the walkway you can see the living room & foyer below. The upstairs walkway comes up 3 1/2 I guess, but it is still a little scary to look down over the edge.

I can not find any websites for ideas for extending the walkway (upwards) with decorative railing, or any other ideas. Let me know if you have any suggestions! Thanks! jen

So the walkway is just basically a catwalk with open railings?

Maybe build a 2x wall the height of the railing and then put planter boxes along the top sides (like you see for balconies) to reduce the "long way down" feeling. I think if a railing went all the way up to the ceiling you would feel like you were walking through a cage.
