Picking a contractor

I know this is a DIY forum but since I got hurt I have definite limitations. So I am forced to hire contractors.

Why is it so hard to get a contractor to show up?

Why (when they finally do show up) half of them wont send you the quote they promised to send?

I just need two rooms "skim coated with plaster".

Any advice on picking a contractor would be apreciated.

Figured you would have the opposite problem with the economy in the toilet. You might wnat to check with the Better Business Bureau in your area or talk to acquaintances (sp.?) who had this work done before you did.

It sounds like the contractors are still fairly busy in your area although as noted above, that may change. Often it's harder to find contractors to a take on small jobs than it is larger ones.

Do you know anyone that has this type of work done with good results? Word of mouth is often the best advertising. You might check where plaster supplies are sold -they should know who's busy or not. As always - check references!
