It's gonna get alot worse. I just had to pay everything out of pocket for us to have our 3rd child because BC/BS considered my wifes pregnancy "preexisting." Talk about b.s.

Are you sure that is correct?

Does that mean it now jumps from $1 to $3? What kind of figure we talking here? Common sense would say that they would not raise it that much, at least in one whack(maybe over 10 years...but even so) or else run the risk of having them not get re-elected, as you say.

I've not heard how much the increase is but since our S.S. pay won't get an increase [cost of living] that really means that we take a cut in pay

Anybody watch SNL last night? I only watched the first few minutes, an actor pretending to be our president - it would have been funny if it wasn't so serious.

Who said they could do that? I thought the gov't was supposed to be working for us?

Why the smiley face? Because I think we all deep down inside really know there is nothing we can do about this anymore. No matter what party we elect, the country keeps heading down the toilet bowl. Each party blames what the last administration did, and nobody can point the finger at who started certain gov't policies. It's like it just appears. They have the police, the army, and the courts - and us little people can't win. We are heading to socialism and there is nothing anybody can do about it. Sorry.

The other day, on a national talk radio show, they were wasting their time discussing if it is legal for the gov't to tax ownership of guns. Obviously, when they say in the Constitution it is your right to bear arms, they did not intend for there to be ifs ands and butts, that can thwart people from having guns - and other laws that somehow managed to bypass the people, prohibiting us from carrying them where we want to.

The gov't just does as it pleases these days. They are too big and powerful. They pay themselves what they think they are worth and not what we say they should get paid. Ever hear of anything so crazy as this? And we do not do anything to stop it.

I think I heard once that even just a one term Senator gets this huge lifetime pension, if I am not mistaken.

And don't you just love it that they can appoint other people to positions and have no accountability to us? Who thought that one up? In theory, a President could appoint gangsters to office, and some think that.....well, anyway. And who thought up the one where a President can even pardon gangsters?

Well, yes and no. There IS something that "we" could do about it but the vast majority of voters don't WANT to do anything about it.

Ever notice the percentage of Senators and Representatives that run for re-election and lose? It is something like two percent or less. SOMEBODY must like the way "our" government is working or else they wouldn't keep re-electing the same people.

I read or heard that little quip about how there has been no inflation over the past year and I wonder what planet those particular bean counters were assessing. My grocery costs are UP some ten to twenty percent from last year and the cost of gasoline has risen at least twenty cents per gallon in just the last two or three months. No inflation? Not in my area.

BD/BS is a private entity and has nothing to do with the government. Rates are rising for all insurance companies and its not targeted at only senior citizens. My group BC/BS plan's rates are going up next year, in addition to co-pays, deductibles, and whatever else they can find. My employer's health insurance provides a total of four different insurers and three different plans each. But the rates are within a few dollars of each other, and the coverage is almost identical. Something drastic needs to be done with the health insurance industry. If something isn't done soon, none of us will be able to afford health insurance.

my medicare program for the goverment--they are told what
they can charge.
Remember----500 billion of medicare has to be transfered to
Obamacare----GET IT ????
BTY----don't look for any savings under Obamacare---for the
average person there will be only grief................

for whomever stated that we run the gov, you are wrong. We do not have a democracy. Never did, never intended to be so get over that. Yes, we can control with out votes but realistically, that is a very limited power.

and to blaming everything on Obama. Did anybody forget the debt when W left office?

Have you taken the 10 seconds needed to determine when the national debt increased the greatest?

Living with the legacy of the largest national debt ever is not going to be easy and it most likely will get real ugly before, and if, O can really make any changes. Right now, he is in a preservation mode, simply trying to keep unemployment from reaching unGodly levels.

I am sure somebody is going to come back and say :but it is a dem congress. Well, start looking at that as well but ultimately, the pres does direct the budget.

here is a nice pic:

Thanks for the graphic, Nap. I think it points out very well the fallacy that Republicans are more conservative in spending than are Democrats.

j HOWARD, I used to think that I was one of the most cynical persons on the planet but you take that title away from me easily. Do you have ANYTHING good to say about our country?

jH lives in/near Detriot (his spelling..I think) so I can understand his feelings to a great extent.

And not to get into a big political debate (please? ok? thank you?), the chart doesn't show what was happening in the world at the time..and doesn't go far enough..lets bring it up to 2009 and make a comparison.

I liked medicare ( a democrat program ) until our feerless
leader decided old folks don't need medical care as much as
people that don't have medical insurance---especially all
the young ones that voted for him.............
They may not be too happy in the future--they may actually have to pay something for their insurance...........

That chart is pretty misleading. I would like to see what group was in Congress during all these increases.

Well Nap,

Have fun..................

I am neither a staunch supporter of the Dems or Rep parties. I call 'em as I see 'em and while Bill was in office, my economy flourished. Since W got into office, it was a downhill slide the entire time.

I do not like what I see happening but O has been in office for less than a year. W had 8 years to run this country into the ground. It will not be repaired overnight, whether it was a republican in office or a dem as it is.

we are facing one of the worst financial crisis ever. If we did not have the FDIC and a few other fed programs in place, I have little doubt it would have surpassed the great depression of 29.

It's not that I do not understand or sympathize but our major businesses have been a much greater evil than the government ever has been. Pensions that are not fully funded (there ought to be a law requiring it), companies like United Airlines that cry that they cannot emerge from BK unless they are allowed to dump their pension plan onto the Pension Guarantee Fund.

Companies such as GM and Chrysler and even Ford to an extent that were warned way back in the '50's that we needed to have a small vehicle to compete with the Japanese. The corporate level decision makers refused to listen to anybody other than themselves.

and never NEVER forget about Deming. The corporate world shot his ideas down when he presented them here. The Japanese took them to heart and used them to beat us soundly.

Like I always ask those that complain: do you have a better solution? If so, call one of these phone numbers and let them know:

Switchboard: 202-456-1414

or here is a form you can fill out:

Contact Us
FAX: 202-456-2461

the problems are much greater than the one man we put a target on but as that target, he gets shot at the most. It has been a aggregate effort by many levels of society that has put us where we are today.
