Exclamation Hit & Run

In Alabama, I see on the local news where there is a auto hit and run almost weekly. What has happened??
Has the penalty changed for H&R?
Is it just my area or widespread?
I am referring mainly to auto/pedestrian H&R.

We have a strange one going on right now where the wife of a retired football star killed someone on the side of a freeway exit ramp and kept going.

I don't quite understand how you can hit a person and just keep driving.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that 90% of the hitters fall into one of the following categories:

No license (suspended, revoked, never had one)
No insurance
Invalid registration
Already wanted for other offenses

Given that, it's no wonder they run.

No conscience.

Heartless. Like alot of football players (and apparently their wives). They can bail themselves out anyways. Why should they care?

I'd guess that a good percentage of them are also under the influence or alcohol or drugs

That would be my guess on this one - I don't know anything about the woman but my suspicion is she was impaired and figured it would be better to admit to the accident once the effects wore off.

Just last year, a woman passed a school bus stopped on the highway. Struck and killed a seven year old and B**ch went on to work.
When law enforcement traced her vehicle, they went to her work site and she said she was in a horry and didn't want to be late for work and was not aware she had struck the child
Problem is, news never stated what her fine or conviction was, but I guess it is court records
