Tho

Yep, I'm ranting again about people that make up grammar and spelling rules as they write.

I'm seeing it more and more these days, tho. Why is it so difficult to write though?

I think that's a side effect of the new texting language mentality; people don't want to type whole words any longer.

Well, I"m guilty of that. Some words I will abbreviate, as long as they make sense to read. Just less to type. I'm not a texter, just always did that with certain words.

I had an aunt (died many years ago) that would write tho and even as a kid it drove me nuts. What made it worse was that she was a secretary for the NEA (National Education Association) for more than thirty years. The old Superman comics used tho in the 1930s but eventually learned the correct spelling.

Some abbreviations are acceptable IMO. Abbreviating almost every word and leaving out punctuations is one thing, but a word here and there is no big deal.
I think maybe you're a little too picky.

Of course I'm picky, I'm an engineer and being picky is important in my work. Or at least it was when I was still gainfully employed.

I'm guilty of substituting "pix" or "pic" for "pictures" here on the forum. I do text when it is called for, but find it really difficult to use abbreviations the kids use nowadays. I'm afraid my sentences will be misunderstood due to an incorrect abbreviation.

My pet peeve is "thanx". Only one letter saved anyway so not that much saved effort. Or how about "noone" instead of "no one".

Number one thing that drives me up the wall is people who use just "help" as a title for their post. Takes all my restraint not to post a rude reply. I do usually edit the title and give my reason for editing as, "Adding a real title". Probably that is rude also but it gets my boil down to a simmer.

I swear I can never remember certain words. I've probably been guilty many times of typing noone or maybe as no-one (though spell check says that's ok?) and in to instead of into.

I've said before...in informal things like this...I have a tendency to write as I speak.

Wel...thx fer readin!

Jeez Furd, Instead of carping about other people's grammar maybe you should consider why it bothers you so much.

Concerns regarding grammar are more appropriate for more formal correspondance. The important part of electronic media communications like e-mail, mb posts and texting is comprehension, tho brevity and bandwidth are also factors. JMO tho.
