Question Need some creative (Gift) ideas. ???

Okay, here's the deal. Little brother turns 50 today, but I won't see him until this weekend. I want to put together a gag gift collection, but not the usual BIG 5-0 stuff. He's a road sergeant with the sheriff's department in the home county, so I was thinking law-enforcement-themed BIG 5-0 stuff.

So far I've got:

Low cal/low fat donuts (will actually be just plain donuts with a new label)

I'm making a small set of roller skates from scrap wood [for the over the BIG 5-0 foot pursuits]

A pistol target with the "X" and "10" rings expanded out to include the "9" and "8" rings.

Looking for anything else to add to the collection [he's getting something nice, too, and has a great sense of humor].

I had bought my dad a case of Labatts 50 beer as a gag gift for his 50th. Not sure how you would get that down there, or tie it into the law enforcement themed.

A walker could be for high speed chases.

Nothing specific, but I'm thinking eyesight and hearing. You kinda have the eyesight covered with the targets. Maybe a set of muffs with giant ears attached? Or just a cap with ears or a hearing horn like the old days?

A homemade life alert? Naw...that would be tacky I guess.

I like the hearing horn.

Can add a magnifying glass to the list. The bigger the glass, the better.

When we had a well rather adult oriented lingerie store the sheriff department here were one of our best customers.
You may try finding some furry hand cuffs
Or print out a picture of "Barney Fife" from Mayberry. frame it with "My Hero" and fake an autograph or put a small image in a key chain
If your really good at photoshop stuff find a picture of him and superimpose it (him) into a group photo of the cast of from Reno 911 or similar.
Just some thoughts
Good luck

For Christmas one year I gave my brother a rubber hollow brain. When I gave it to him (at a party and all gifts were unwrapped) I said, "Notice it is hollow, that means it is only half a brain. How many times has someone told David if he had half a brain he would..."

How about making a fake doughnut made out of wood but in a box that has a glass front with the words break in case of emergency? Too bad you live so far or I would give you a box that honey comes in, we get it from a monastery and it has a plexiglass front to it. So if you know of anyone who gets honey from a monastery in the mail or some other thing you could ask them for the box. As for the wooden ring try a craft store they probably would have it.

You should get him a toy gun with a monocle glued to the top so he can see his targets better.

And maybe a radio mic with a big funnel glued to it so he can hear it better.

This is coming together nicely. Acting on the hearing loss angle I came up with this and included some funny instructions [it's "The New Deluxe Communications
Enhancement Device for Elderly Law Enforcement Personnel [Patent pending]":

There's a strap going over the top of my head that hooks to my other ear.

Mike: Not familiar with Labatt's 50, but we can get Labatt's draft at the city ballpark (Spring home for the Blue Jays). Will have to check around.

Hedgeclippers: I've used the break glass in case of emergency previously. When he was driving a Crown Vic I built him a wooden console box arm rest and in the bottom I had a small package of donuts with plexiglas over it, said In Case of Emergency..... He almost wet his pants laughing when I gave it to him.

Sorry wish I could help you more but I have run out of ideas. You gave me a good laugh though! I wish your brother a happy birthday! Not a bad idea with the hearing horn.

Came across that thing and its twin while cleaning out an impounded vehicle; looked like just the ticket.

Get a couple of buddies together and dress like the Village People and start the party off with YMCA. Make sure you at least have one of his hats and uniform jackets on hand so he can join the fun.
