Logging out

This started last night. When I try to log out I get a white screen that says Error 503 Service Unavailable and then something about cache and other numbers. I tried several times last night and also several time today. The only thing that works is to close my browser.

Is this on my end or a problem with the forum?

Oh, I did have my router "lock up" on me yesterday (first time ever) but I was able to re-boot with no problem.

This is the entire page I get.

Error 503 Service Unavailable

I've been getting the 503 error for several days. Vista, and FF
and I have been having modem/router issues for over a year, another discussion.

I think that error page is pretty generic. I often get the same page when something doesn't work on the forums. I never log out, just close my browser.

I just logged out and I got that error page I'll notify the techs and see what they say.

That issue should be resolved. They said it was related to Varnish .... whatever the heck that means

Not that I'm skeptical, but I just hit the logout and got the same error message.
I'll give them a day or so and see if it helps.

Bud have you cleared your cache? sometimes that makes a difference.
If you are still getting the error message come monday, post a reminder and we'll have them check into it again. I don't think the techs work weekends

I was wondering about this myself and thought about reporting it but didn't feel like it with carpal tunnel problems which seem to be finally getting better. I sure could have used that Guru for meditation though . You can tell I am feeling a bit better if I can joke around. You guys have a great weekend!

Hi: Mark

LMAO! Humorous & Funny One!!! HA HA.
Varnish???... As a painter you would know I suspect.
Just got to love'em. Acronyms abound. Go figure.

Got Me 2 wondering what VARNISH is?
Must be some wooden furniture upgrades done or to the work room floors or walls, etc.

Someone over there must have INHALED Varnish FUMES! (??) LOL!
I'll not even bother to inquire about it.

Varnish is an HTTP accelerator designed for content-heavy dynamic web sites. In contrast to other web accelerators, such as Squid, which began life as a client-side cache, or Apache and nginx, which are primarily origin servers, Varnish was designed as an HTTP accelerator. Varnish is focused exclusively on HTTP, unlike other proxy servers that often support FTP, SMTP and other network protocols.
Just in case anyone was wondering...

I'm still getting the error message. Early Saturday I got a "down for maintenance" message that would not allow me to log off or to make any posts.

I'm not sure why [there was no advance notice] but the forums were down for a couple of hours saturday morning. I mostly got an error message but did get a maintenance message once. I don't think the techs work weekends.

I am still getting the error message and am unable to log out except by closing my browser. This is getting tiresome.

Gotta ask, why do you want to log out so bad? I never do, just close the browser and be gone. I could maybe understand if this was a bank or something like that, what am I missing?

On this forum you get a green dot next to your name if you are logged in. Someone might mistake that as meaning I am actively checking the forum when in fact I am not. Closing my browser will also close my E-mail and other sessions where I need a log-in, something I do not want to do.

Understood but closing the forum's window and opening a new one does the same thing. I never bother to log out, just click on the red X instead

I never log out. If you are using tabbed browsing, it's easier to just close the tab to avoid messing with PM's or whatever. Who cares if someone thinks you are on? I probably show as logged on even when it's in standby and I've been asleep for 4 hrs.

I think everyone has "invisible mode" in their general settings don't they?

Vic, I think the invisible mode is only for group and super mods. If it is available to the rest of us - I'm not smart enough to know how

Ahhh, see I didn't know that. Its the first thing at the top of general settings under log in and privacy, so if you don't see it you ain't got it. My bad.....

Well that's cuz we're special, Mike, lol! Supers see and hear everything!

Actually Furd, the green dot just shows temporarily after you leave. After so much time of inactivity, the green dot will go away. Sometimes it's in a few minutes and sometimes after a half hour. Not sure why. But I agree with Vic, who cares if someone thinks I'm on or not.

Oh no! Does that mean you can see my posts (saved every now and then) before I can correct my spelling? Oh Lordie, the horror.

Oh I do Joel...

It may not be priority but its a technical issue that should be fixed... I dont want to beat a dead horse here.. This is general chats and we had no response from admin yet from internal web issues...... ( Although i need to check...)

Maybe its low on the totem pole....

I still see the error or did anyway the last time I looked and logged out but it doesn't bother me that much. I still get logged out and find proof of that once I use the back space feature on my Firefox browser. Also when I come back I see that I am logged out. Much better a problem than the time I couldn't log back in and thought I had been suspended or something else had happened as back then nothing worked to log in. I think that problem lasted about two days and was real annoying as I couldn't contribute.

The problem seems to have been corrected, at least for me. I have hesitated to post the improvement for a couple of days hoping not to jinx the issue. I'll see if I can sign out this morning.
