rant for the day

I have a bldg down at the bottom of my property that has a separate electric meter. Since it seldom gets used any more I had the power turned off when I paid my electric bills last week. I was surprised when I got the final bill as it was the same amount as the previous month. Apparently you have to pay $22.96 per month minimum with no partial credit for it only being 7 days in the last billing period .... and there was no electricity used! The kicker was the due date was the same as the due date for the bill I paid last week.

They said that I agreed to that minimum charge when I had service installed to help them recoup setting a transformer BUT that minimum charge was for only for 5 yrs and that was a dozen or so yrs ago. Most be nice to get extra money for nothing!

Well don't look at the little miscellaneous charges on your phone or cable bill then.

Maybe you ought to rent it to someone, Mark. Let them pay the bill.

You've already paid $3300, does that mean you own the transformer now?

Ya, they've made a killing on that bldg, I doubt there were more than a few months that I ever used more than the minimum. It wouldn't have bothered me so bad if they had only charged $12-$15 dollars for one week or made up the difference with a cut off charge but they charged me the same for 1 week as 1 month. In fact the gal said that if the final month had been 1/2 of a day - the charge would have still been the same

If I rented it out, I'd have to get the kids to remove all the stuff they have stored down there.

I don't have any complaints with my house electric bill since they installed a digital meter. Prior to the digital meter [read remotely] they'd only read it 2-3 times a year and estimate the rest of the time BUT they always over estimated and then when they read the meter they wanted to charge me $10 for not using any electricity that month I tried the budget plan, every month they billed me more than I used. They kept saying it would work out later, after a year and half I canceled the budget plan - I didn't have to pay a bill for 3 months.

We are fortunate that TVA allows us to have some of the cheaper electricity rates

Are you on TVA? Our EMC charges a $17 to $19 per account charge each month apparently to recoup expenses of a new building they built. My shop uses about $8 a month, but with taxes and the "customer fee", it is now easily $25 per month. I have 3 accounts, so that is a cool $50 per month in goofy stuff.

OMG! Do you live in a mansion? How is that possible? Mine gets close to $200 when it's been very hot, but that's pretty rare. You must be all electric?

My electric bill is almost 300 in the spring and summer, 400+ in the winter. Don't ask about Christmas time.

Our local POCO buys electricity directly from TVA. I'm probably only 5 miles [as the crow flies] from one of their dams, about double that if you take the roads

The last electric bill for my house was $61.26 for 579 KWH [7/16-8/14] .... but I also get cable, internet and phone thru the light company so I never get by with a cheap bill
