HA! What's that orange thing sticking out in the front supposed to be for?

Ha! Ha! that car door looks like something they might come up with on Salvage Dawgs. I have just started watching Salvage Dawgs and they come up with some strange ideas for things.

Hey... don't laugh. That orange thing is a high performance air filter for a high performance auto.

I think the orange thing is the siren for the anti-theft system.

I am like Pete, in that it looks like a K&N air filter. Not cheap.

You should have seen some of the Gitmo Specials down in Cuba 20 yrs ago. Talk about junkyard dogs.

I agree some of those Cubans could really teach some of our automobile manufacturers a thing or two. I haven't seen the cars from Cuba up close but I have seen pictures of them and let's just say they don't teach that kind of engineering in Detroit. Real crazy kinds of repairs they have been doing for years to keep those heaps running.

No, I'm talking about the ones on the Guantanamo base, passed from person to person as they transferred. No fenders, no hoods, no doors. They changed it a while back and they had to meet basic inspections.

They're called Gitmo specials, Cars that have been on the island forever. You are right that things have changed. The current requirements are -
“The horn, windshield wipers, all lights, and side and rearview mirrors have to be present,” said Wilson. “Other issues to watch are to make sure the muffler is intact, the seat belts are present and operational, and that fenders and bumpers are properly secured to the vehicle.”

It wasn't always that way. In the 60's it seemed like everything except wheels and an engine were optional for some of them. However, the current requirements say that stuff like horn, lights and mirrors have to be "present." It doesn't say operational and there doesn't seem to be any rule prohibiting securing fenders and bumpers with duct tape.

If it is.... it's not working. Someone stole the fender and a door handle.
