flaky G-mail

Anybody ever experience this problem?

Occasionally, and especially with e-mail notifications from this form, I'll get an e-mail that may be several weeks old (but not updated) being sent as if it was a new response to the thread. I'll click the link and read the thread only to find nothing new has been written and the latest reply date is several weeks old. It only happens once in while (perhaps a dozen times within the past year), so it's not a problem. I'm just wondering if I'm the only one seeing this.

I don't bother with notifications on forums. The next time it happens, look at the headers. That will tell you who the real flake is, gmail or diy. Post the headers here if you have trouble understanding them. You can delete/change your email address to maintain your privacy.

It happened again. Just tonight. I was notified that donoli2016 (the last post) replied to my post today. But in fact it was back on 3-29-17. And I had looked at it on that day. Ironic that it did it to this particular post.

Here is the header info:

Actually a spammer did just reply to your thread a while ago, but that post was deleted.

That quote doesn't have my name in which case the headers that you posted are correct. Double check. If the headers actually coincide with my response, it's not a gmail hiccup, it's a forum hiccup.

BTW, you didn't delete your email address from all places in the headers.

Why should being a spammer change notifications? If everything in Norm's post is from the same notification & that name matches the headers, it has nothing to do with my response.

I didn't say anything about the spammer changing notifications. I was interjecting that information so everyone involved would know the flow pattern of the thread. In essence, I think this thread has used up enough bandwidth and will be closed unless something constructive is added. How's that?

That was already explained in post #4. That's why I thought you were trying to add something else.

At least let Norm respond. I don't think that the bandwidth will crash the server.

It is only fair to let Norm respond since it is his thread. I don't do notifications, so I have not experienced any lag time like mentioned. I had to use my Gmail account while in Denver last week because of some glitch with Windstream and their local servers. I responded to customers and got calls the next day asking if I got their email. Then they got my email a day later, so Gmail definitely has some lag time in it.

I don't do notifications either nor do I use gmail. That's another story for another thread. As far as lag time goes in emails, I've seen lag up to a few hours with any service. I've never seen 2 or 3 days.

Anyway, we'll wait for Norm's response to see if there are any other possible answers.
