I really, really, really, really, want to, and I have some preliminary plans made in my head. However, both my wife and dad are having some cancer issues, so I am not 100% sure I can pull it off. I would need to travel to Missouri or Nebraska to see it depending of cloud cover so that kind of adds some more complexity.

@ Shorty - We would know that if you filled out your location.

I guess it was a bad joke. I meant a different type of zone of darkness.

Well, it's up the road a bit for us, but we got a hotel room for Sunday night in Georgia and will drive into the "zone" on Monday. Hope the weather cooperates, our 8th grader really wants to see it. He and our daughter will be around (I would like to be, too) for a really good one in 2045 that's going right across Florida from northwest to southeast. Won't have to travel for that one.

I was told that Wyoming has already put out notices of road closures on the evening before til the morning after. Otherwise traffic will be like leaving Woodstock.

They said there are no hotels, so plan to get in early, stake out your spots and stay til the day after.

I was at Woodstock. Leaving wasn't the problem. It was going. We left Thursday night just after midnight. By 6AM, the two way road was one way. Luckily my friends family had a farm house in Forsterdale 9 miles from the concert site.

Gas for the 1000 mile round trip to the "zone" - $70

Hotel room - $107

Meals, drinks, and snacks for the three days - $300

The look on our 13 year old son's face during totality - Priceless

Had a spectacular view in a clear blue sky in Columbia, SC. total for about 2 1/2 minutes. Fun drive home last night, about 10 hours but son had to be in school today.

Yep, that about sums it up. As soon as I get back to the house today I'll post one of my pics. You'll be a little close in 2024, shadie. And I hope I'll be around in 2045 for one that goes across Florida; I saw some numbers tha the duration will be something like 6 minutes for that one.

Saw it in Oregon. I agree....wow. I have seen partials and even up to 99% it was like....seen this before. When it went complete I was awestruck. Closest thing to describe what I saw was the purest white I've ever seen, without it being blinding. Contrasted against the darkest black of the moon and oh my, oh my.
