Great song and tribute.
It makes you wonder why they do it. The seas and heavy swells can be unforgiving.

The "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is one of my favorite sad songs. When my son was a grad student in the 90's he was part of a crew operating a submersible RV that surveyed the wreck.

Handyone - My "WTF am I doing here?" sea story - chipping ice off the radar antenna, main mast and spars in a half gale in the North Atlantic. We had such an ice burden on the superstructure that there was concern that we would capsize. No harness - just a linesman's belt with one hand for the ship and the other hand for hanging on. That was my last North Atlantic cruise.

I've been listening to Gordon Lightfoot for over 40 years & saw him live around the same time. Check out some of his other things.

Saw a documentary on it several years ago, History channel I think, that was excellent. I was In WESTPAC when it went down, I always remember it because November 10th was 200th USMC birthday [already the 11th there of course].
