how many folks in an elevator?

I noticed in an elevator at the hospital where my BiL is they have a sticker on the wall stating a 3500 lb, 21 person limit. The elevator is 5.5' x 6.5' Can you cram that many people in that small of a space? I sure wouldn't want to try!

When I go to jury duty, we have to go in large groups up and down the elevators, and they crammed us like sardines in them!
Didn't really have a choice unless we wanted to wait and wait. Didn't like it but when you have to, you have to.
In your case, I doubt that many people would ever have to cram in such a small space, but I guess it can hold that many if necessary.
Only thing, how does one know what any particular group of 21 weigh, you know what I mean, lol?

Never thought to look, now I'll have to when we go back after lunch

I think they'd have to be pretty skinny to fit 21 people in 36 sq ft!

My guess is they want the lifting capacity to exceed the load potential at all times.
