Does it harm me to initiate a divorce request in writing?

We've been having irreconcilable differences for the past several years.
I assume she wants one too but you never know.
I had prepared an email outline to discuss amicably dividing assets, etc. in which I ask for a divorce.
Does it in any way harm me to be the initiator of the divorce request?
Also, if for some reason she doesn't want a divorce, am I locked in?

TIA,

-MC

Divorce is specific to the state of residence. If your state has "no fault" divorce laws then your spouse cannot block the divorce but she can delay it.

There is nothing to be gained by using an E-mail to "discuss" the division of assets and liabilities. My personal opinion is that the initiator of the divorce has a slight edge. I strongly suggest that you talk to an attorney that specializes in divorce or family law. Many attorneys will give a half-hour at no charge.
