emergency contact advice

My good friend just bought a condo. He wants to make me his emergency contact and give me his condo/garage keys when he is gone. That way if the condo building association needs to open his condo I could bring the keys over.

My question is can he hold me responsible for anything or sue me if, let's say, there is an emergency and I am not readily available to being the condo association people the keys to open his door?

I just feel uncomfortable with that thought.

Not a lawyer, but I would think not, as long as he's not paying you, it's not your "job", and there's no written contract, making you responsible.
Whatever happens falls on him in the end, not you. My 2cents.
On the other side, if something happened and you couldn't go there, it would probably (or possibly) end a friendship. Something to consider.

The friend part doesn't bug me....the lawsuit part does.

In that case, if you're just doing it as a friend, he'd have no case.

I think this is pretty simple - you're uncomfortable with this, so decline
