How is bathroom mirror attached to wall?

I have 4'x8' mirror in my bathroom. I am not the original owner of the house. The mirror got black spots. I am assuming moisture got on the back side and damaged the reflection layer. I tried to pull it off the wall. It moved a little forward but is held by something on the back.

What holds a mirror typically? I am not the original owner of the house.

I have heard about putting another layer on the front instead of removing the old one. Is it true? Is this basically a pro's job?

Thanks.

The mirror is held on with globs of mirror mastic. A 4' X 8" mirror is quite large and therefore dangerous to remove and should be left to a professional to remove and replace it.
