Age a new mirror?

I am converting an old picture frame to a tray. I will convert the "glass" area of the frame to an aged mirror. Who has steps on aging a new mirror to appear old? HELP!

Age a neew mirror

HGTV.com has a project under stained glass "Faux Antique Mirror" using gelatin and silver or aluminum leaf on glass to recreate the look of an antique mirror that seams much more 'reasonable' than the $85.00 chemical kit you reference for 300 square feet. Thanx for the helpful input.

I doubt if that kit works as easily as they claim. If the mirror you have is fairly new the grey paint on the back is very difficult to remove and under that is copper plating and then the silver. Why not go to a local glass shop and they may have a piece of antique mirror.

age new mirror

Thanx, I'll check out my local glass center for any old/aged mirror. I also found on HGTV a process for a faux aged/antique mirror using unglavored gelatin (KNOX Gelatin) and silver/aluminum leaf-seems worth a try as well.Thanx again!
