Question

I'd like to make a lamp out of a large oriental vase. I know that a hole can be drilled in the bottom to do this, but I don't know how to avoid breaking the vase when drilling the hole. This would be similar to drilling a hole in glass or a mirror. Tape? Does anyone know? Advise would be appreciated.

A hole can be made in glass and mirror with a spear point bit which is also used for tile and is sold at home centers. The use of turpentine is recommended as a coolant to provide a cleaner cut....I nick the tile with a sharpened nail set to keep the bit in it's place.
