how can you tell if its a vintage mirror

I go to lots of estate sales and see lots of old mirrors how can you tell if it is a real old mirror?I have heard that if you hold up a flame like a candle and see at least six reflections it is old are there any other ways?

If the mirror is in a frame there is little you can tell except for the streaking that happened to old mirrors due to the method of silvering. If it out of the frame check the thickness, old mirrors were alomost 5/16" thick, today 7/32". If it has a bevel look at it, the higher edge will not be perfectly straight and you might fine some waves on the bevels surface. This is because it was done by hand.
