Diy dishwasher detergent
I have hard water and have tried many diy dishwasher detergent recipes, but my glasses do not come out sparkling like when I use store bought dishwasher detergent. I have added xtra citric acid, and put a small container of vinegar in the load but glassware is still full snd smudgy. What else can I try? I prefer liquid detergent. TIA

Probably just need to get a water softener, Your going to get a final rinse so it's going to be hard water no mater what you add and that is going to dry as spots.

There is a lot that goes on with commercial dishwasher soap. That's why they work so well. Many contain surfactants to allow the water to sheet and run off dishes and glassware for a more spot free finish. Then there are the various cleaning chemicals and it's a difficult recipe to do at home and achieve similar results. Basically, store bought dishwasher soap performs better than anything you can make at home with common ingredients.
Keep in mind that most soaps are bases. Your adding acids (citric and vinegar) can actually hurt cleaning performance. Each on their own has some benefit but when you combine them they can cancel each other out to some extent.
