Patio Cover

I'm going to put up a lattice patio cover made from Douglas fir. I live in the desert southwest where temperatures can reach a 120 during the summer. Wood dries out and warps very easily.
What type of "wood treatment" can I use to extend the life of the wood and hopefully protect it against drying out ?? TIA for all responses !!

Personally, i wouldn't spend the time and money to do the lattice cover in wood, ESPECIALLY since you have already pointed out all of the maintenance issues that you know you are in for if you do. Do it in ALUMINUM!! Check sites like Alumawood, Texas Aluminum Industries (TAI), Amerimax, Metals USA, etc. (The coil they all use comes from one source -- TAI -- the difference will be slight between the different mfgrs. who roll it out, but could be great between the contractor who installs it. SHOP AROUND!!
