Ridge board splice

I'm building a 12x 16 shed in my backyard

I need a 2x6 ridge board at least 16' long the longest I have is 14'

Can a ridge board be spliced in Florida?

Of course it can have a splice, but it's better if it doesn't. Your putting over $1k into this shed. Is $20 for a 16' ridge board a budget breaker??

Actually I'm putting nothing into the shed but time

My step father used to build custom sheds for a living
When he died in Mar he left behind about half a boat load of PT lumber, plywood, high end windows, vinyl siding, concrete pads and even the nails and hurricane clips.

We were wanting to build the shed using only the material that he left behind
Kind of a symbolic thing, we're gonna call it the Bobby Lee Memorial Shed
That's actually the name going on the permit..

If the splice would adversely affect the structural stability of the shed then certainly I would buy the longer board

Ridge board splice

He would probably have wanted it to be done right, but did not have access to the plans.

I agree - buy it if you should use it.

He used to have a guy mill his lumber for him.
I'll see if I can get him to sell me just the one.
If not I'll go to the local lumber yard because I doubt Home Depot would have it.

Now there's just the issue of getting it home
